Are you a coffee lover like me who’s also into affiliate marketing? Do you dream of helping your husband or wife retire early while earning a few pennies on the side? You’re in luck because today I’m talking about the most exciting topic in the world (drumroll please)… affiliate marketing disclosure!

Ok, so maybe you’re not into affiliate marketing but I do need to make sure I am as transparent as possible on my blog/website. It is my responsibility to make sure I come across trustworthy and genuine to my readers and affiliate partners rather than my readers feeling as though I am scamming them online. I am not, I am genuinely trying to earn some pennies for our retirement breakfasts and coffees…

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Boring” But hear me out because affiliate marketing disclosure is more important than you might think.

First off, let’s start with the basics. What is affiliate marketing? Essentially, it’s when you promote someone else’s product and receive a commission for any sales made through your unique affiliate link. It’s a great way to earn some extra cash while sharing products you love with your audience.

But here’s the catch: the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) requires that I disclose any affiliate relationship with any products I promote. This means that I need to make it clear to my audience that I am earning a commission from any sales made through my link.

Now, I know, I don’t want to scare away my audience by telling them I’m making money!” Trust me, I know you are smarter than we think. In fact, studies have shown that consumers actually appreciate transparency when it comes to affiliate marketing.

So, how do I disclose my affiliate relationship in a way that won’t make my audience roll their eyes? Here are a few ways I am fully disclosing my connection to affiliate marketing.

I’m upfront: I will not bury the disclosure in the fine print. Instead, I make it clear and prominent so my audience knows exactly what’s going on.
I keep it light: I’m not afraid to inject some humor into my disclosure. For example, “Just FYI, I may earn a few pennies if you decide to buy this coffee mug. But hey, a penny saved is a penny earned, right?”
I’m trying to be creative: Thinking outside the box and coming up with a unique way to disclose my affiliate relationship. For example, I could create a fun GIF or meme that explains the concept – maybe later!
